    corrupt .dta file

    Hi,
I am working with a program called bottom line. It uses Btrieve to create it's .dta files. I have a file called workz.dta and a file called workzone.dta. they seemed to have been corrupt. Is there any way I can open these files or do something to make them functional again. I know these are the files that are corrupt because I replaced these two files with clean ones from the program and the program now works fine. The only problem is a lot of my past scheduling data is in these two files. What can I do?
    thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for replying. Like I said we are using a program called bottom line. It is a scheduling program. We really aren't getting an error message. What is happening is when we try to use the scheduling program, it doesn't display the proper information, it shows the same name in everybody's schedule. the files are workz.dta and workzone.dta. when I replaced those files with the blank data files that are supplied with bottom line the program works fine. I am thinking if there is a way to repair the .dta files or transfer the information from the corrupted file to the blank in a text editor maybe that would work. If you would like to call me I am at 408-836-1267. Thanks for your interest in helping me.

    Hi, Angelo,

Go to Start/Programs/Pervasive/Utilities/Maintenance Utility. Pull the "Data" list down, and select "Copy". Then, just copy the data from your problem files into the empty clones.

Let me know if this fixes the problem for you,

    Regards, shyde

    Hi,
My problem is that the pervasive program did not come with my bottom line program. Somehow the .dta file is being created from within the bottomline program.

    thanks

    Re: corrupt .dta file

    Hi, Angelo,

I'm not familiar with the Bottomline program. If you have access to your "problem" data files, you can clone them with either the Maintenance Utility, or our Command Line Butil utility. Then, you should be able to copy the data in the problem files to the empty clones of those two files. At that point, you should replace the problem files with the freshly created and loaded copies.

If you are unable to implement the clone/copy suggestion, above, it may be time to contact the Bottomline folks.

    Regards, shyde

If you are unable to find help from the vendor, then the KeyCheck tool may be helpful in testing your data files for corruption. Find a copy at www.goldstarsoftware.com/tools.asp.

If you want someone to help analyze the files of your database, then we may be of additional service there, too. Visit our web site at www.goldstarsoftware.com and click on the red "File Recovery" button.
