    Backup of AuditMaster data files

    Hi

What is the correct way to back-up the data that AuditMaster is currently saving. I assume one possibility is to archive the data and then copy the archive file to a backup location, but this would not be feasible every night. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Regards

Are you using a backup software?  I would say backup the directory where the archives are.  You could always restore the directory from the backup if there is an issue with the files.   Remember, moving an archived file out of its folder (i.e., \Arch or \Comp in the installation directory) grays out its entry in the data tree. Moving it back restores the entry and enables queries again. Permanently deleted files cannot be restored.

You can use the Continuous Operations Mode -- a feature of the database system since the Btrieve 6 days.  For an explanation of how this works and how to do it, check out the white paper on proper backups here:

Thanks Jay. I am going to use BtrieveBills solution in this instance as I have a user running a Crystal report using direct SQL queries, and I only want to archive and compress once a month. Co-incidentally though, your suggestion solved another problem I was wondering about.
