What error do you get using a non-admin account?

What interface (Btrieve/ODBC) and tool (Function Executor, PCC, your application) are you using?

Re: Can 2000i be installed on Netware 6.5?

I am trying to set up an odbc connection.  It will not let me login to the server as admin or any other user name (while I am logged in as a standard user.  I even tried to use the Pervasive System Analyzer and it is unsuccessful.  If I logout as a "normal" user and login as "admin" to the server, the odbc connection does work and I can press test and it is successful.

    What error do you get?

What does PSA say when it's unsuccessful?

PSQL 2000i was released in March 2001 and went unsupported in July 2004.  I don't know if it was tested on NetWare 6.5.

Without the errors, we can't tell what the problem is.  You need to give us more information.

Re: Can 2000i be installed on Netware 6.5?

I was at the customer site again yesterday.  If I login to the new server as "admin" the software runs fine.  If I login as the "user" I get pervasive error code 3105.  I have the latest Novell Client installed (4.91.4.20070720)... And the server is running 6.5 with all service packs.  We do not have spx loaded on the new server, but I would think if Admin works the users should work.  Now.... one difference is that admin is in the context :name...elkhart....  all other users are in the context name...elkhart.users.  I did go back and make sure the users have rights to the files and that all looks fine.

     A 3105 means:

3105: No available transport protocol for the Pervasive Network Services Layer
No transport protocol that is common to both the target server engine and clients is available. For example, this status code could be caused by a client using SPX when the server engine only has TCP/IP available. Check the Supported protocols setting within the Communication protocols option for both the client and server. For more information on Communication protocols, refer to Advanced Operations Guide.

Does the Pervasive Control Center work as a regular user?

When you create the connect using the admin account, what does the Pervasive monitor show for the connection?

When setting up the Engine DSN, you MUST provide the Admin login name.  In some cases, you may need to provide the full context as well, as in ".Admin.MyOrganization" to sign in properly. Note the leading dot, which is also important.

Once the Engine DSN is created (which is only done once), then anyone (including standard users) can create a Client DSN on their workstation that points to the Engine DSN that you created.  Simply specify the Server name, then click on Get DSN List, and pick the one from the list that you want.

Re: Can 2000i be installed on Netware 6.5?

to continue with my saga.....  it now seems that it's not necessarily a user problem... it's the workstation that has the previous install of the same version of Pervasive client on it that was pointing to the old server.  If I login as admin on the station as I stated before, it does work.  If I login as another user in the elkhart context, it will work.... but if I login as a user from the elkhart.users context, it will not work.  (error 3105)... To add insult, if I take a machine that has never had the client installed and load it, it will work for any user.  I tried to uninstall (add /remove programs) and reinstall the client on the old workstations, and it doesn't solve anything.  I need to find a complete uninstall for the 2000i win client (including registry entries), to see if that would work.  Does this make sense to anyone?

The only thing which contains any server information is the SatEntry database, which is contained in either HKCU or HKLM (depending on your version)\Software\Pervasive Software\Communications Requester\Version xx\Settings.  To clear this, delete all SatEntry## values and reset NumSatEntries to 0.

Did you put the new server in with the same name as the old one?  If so, then perhaps the old server was configured for SPX only, and the new one is TCP only, and they cannot use the same methods.  Resetting the SatEntry database in the registry will fix this for you.

Re: Can 2000i be installed on Netware 6.5?

I did see this tech note and did delete those entries from the registry....  The 2 servers do have different names, one is server02 and the other is srv1....  But you are correct we are using spx on the old server and tcp/ip only on the new server.  I think we just need to upgrade to the new version.  I have requested a price on this and am waiting.  I used to buy direct from Pervasive, but now I understand they have distributors so I'm not quite sure how this all works.

Having two different server names should have not mattered in any way. pricing is based on user count, and you would normally be eligible for an upgrade license, but Pervasive stopped selling upgrades from PSQL2000i to PSQLv9 several months ago, so you'd be looking at a new purchase.  Pricing can be found here:  www.goldstarsoftware.com/prices9.asp

One other thing -- perhaps your Pervasive clients were configured for SPX only?   Try disabling SPX and enabling TCP.

ID: psql3878 - Status 3105 connecting to a NetWare server with the SPX protocol
Description:    Status 3105 connecting to a NetWare server with the SPX protocol
Environment:    Pervasive.SQL 2000 NetWare, Service Pack 4, SPX Protocol
Solution:    Remove TCP from the supported protocols list on the client machine.   In the Pervasive Control Center, (PCC) expand the client's machine name, expand Configuration, and expand Client.  Select Communications protocols, and then double click on Supported Protocols.  Highlight Microsoft SPX II and click the "<" button to move it from the Selected column to the Available column.  Select OK, then click on the red exclamation point in the toolbar to the changes. Exit the Control Center and restart any open applications.

Re: Can 2000i be installed on Netware 6.5?

    Bill,

Thanks so much for your help....  I'm ready to give up.  My plan is to try the last couple of things you've mentioned again (most I've already tried) tomorrow @ the customer site... If I can't get it to work within an hour or so, I'm going to install the trial version of 9 to see if it works.  If we decide to purchase, I will definitely buy it from Goldstar Software.  Shoule I call or just buy from the internet?  I appreciate all of your help
