    Pervasive Locks Up

On occasion Pervasive will lock up.  Usually I cannot tell why since I cannot find any logs with such information.  Sometimes I can go into Control Center on the server and restart the Pervasive services.  Other time I cannot even get into Control Center.  The only solution I have found at that point is to restart the server and then shutdown and restart the client applications.  I have two questions: is there a log that would show the cause of the problem and is there another way to restart Pervasive without rebooting if I cannot get into Control Center?

    Thank you.

There is the PVSW.log.  Depending on your version of PSQL, you can find them in the following locations:

Prior to v10: C:\PVSW\BIN (assuming that PSQL is installed on the C:\ Drive).

    v10: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pervasive Software\PSQL\Logs

NOTE:  For the v10 location you may need to change the Folder Options in Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.

You can also look in the OS Event Logs.  Right-Click on My Computer, select Manage.  Under Event Viewer, look at Application and System.  You may see an event for PSQL captured there.

If it's the server engine, you could use the Windows services control panel to try and restart the transactional and relational services. I've only had one case (with P.SQL 2000) when the engine was so tied up with an ODBC query that even that didn't work.
