How to Delete a DB Name from DB Dictionary in V8.6 - DBNames.CFG

    Hello,

I was trying to remove a DB from the DB directories (DBNames.CFG) using PCC in V8.6, and was not sucessfull.

The DB name refers to a path, and there is no associated database in the Server\Databases(Engine), so, when I go into

Server\Configuration " errror occurred during drop database", do you want to continue, and it doesn't do it.

How can I delete this DB Name and Path entry in the DBNames.CFG?

    Thanks,
    Sunny

Don't drop the database from the list of databases. If you've only got the actual DBName, you should be able to go into "Maintain Named Databases".  I believe you right click on the Configuration node (I don't have a V8 engine to test with).

If you are using the Drop Database Wizard, make sure the "delete system files" is unchecked.  If there's aren't DDFs in the directory associated with the DBNames the Drop Database Wizard would fail unless delete system files is unchecked.

Thanks, As the application NDC Lytec is using DB Security, and not OS integrated security, it complains that I do not have enough rights to drop the name. I am the admin on the server, and not sure what the default "sa" or master password for any PSql database. Could have been reset by the application vendor, not sure.

Any thing else to try to get in the back door and fix this nagging thing?

    Thanks,

    Sunny

There is no default password on PSQL database names.  So there's no back door way in.  If the application has a password, then you need to contact the vendor to get it.

Why are you trying to delete the database name?  Does the application offer a method of deleting the database? You might need to use that.
