Sorry for the lack of posting, I really need to work on this more often. I can assure you that my lack of posting is related to my workload and travel. The Pervasive team has been very busy working on various projects and deliverables as we move through calendar year 2007 so let me spend a few moments giving you an update since my last trip . . . South Africa. Yes I did go on a safari but I didn't see any lions or cheetahs . . . that requires somebody to get up early in the morning (5am) and that just was not going to happen, however the other Big 3 were accommodating.

So this blog is coming to you via Italy and Belgium, once again I am on the road meeting with partners and customers trying to understand how partners are use Pervasive PSQL. This trip I learned about a customer that is hosting 2TB (yes, terabytes) of data on a Pervasive database with 250+ user accessing thousands of files, quite impressive. The other was a competitive win when the partner migrated their application from Sybase to PSQL, another great win! This type of news made up for my six flights in four days, a cancelled flight (Italian Air traffic controller decided to strike), a ensuing road trip across Italy (West coast to East coast), a night at a 29 euro hotel (1 night) and lot’s of pizza!

During our meetings, we had many discussions around Windows Vista, Windows “Longhorn” and of course, new features people want to see in a future PSQL release. However Windows Vista seems to be the main topic of discussion, the good news is that our White paper “Pervasive PSQL v9 Compatibility with Windows Vista” has had several thousand downloads already, so people are interested. As I have talked in the past were reviewing our list of features for a release due late in the year and of course, full Vista compatibility is one of them. Next step . . . . Windows Longhorn!

We are also getting closer to announce our long awaited .NET 2.0 provider . . . many developers have been waiting for this and the beta is almost complete, more news coming soon. The next big thing is the up-coming Daylight Savings Time change for North America; this happens March 11, 2007 so please read this month’s edition of PSQL Insights (in your email box now) or listens to my Audio update for details. For those of you that are looking for a quick answer . . . Pervasive recommends you update your Windows and Linux operating systems with the appropriate vendor update and for Pervasive PSQL v9 users we recommend you apply the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to ensure proper date/time calculations (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp).
