What’s new in the PSQL ADO.NET data provider?

PSQL ADO.NET 3.5 for PSQL v11 includes support for the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1 and 4.0, ADO.NET Entity Framework Version 1.0, and support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and 2010.

I don't think .NET 4.0 support makes sense with Entity Framework Version 1.0. I've already downloaded the trial but if this is not really available; that is, at the current Entity Framework 4.0 level, it doesn't make sense to go forward.

Also, you mention IPv6 but the Pervasive V11 ReadMe under "Windows" says:

Pervasive PSQL supports Internet Protocol (IP) v4, not IPv6. If the operating system uses IP v6 by default, consider changing the default configuration to IP v4. Using IP v4 as the default prevents the delay caused by the database engine when it attempts to use IP v6 then must revert to IP v4. Refer to the operating system documentation for setting the IP default.

I'm confused!

Can Zippy help?

I guess:

IPv6 - which will be using 32-bit addresses (instead of 16-bit with IPv4)

should be

IPv6 - which will be using 128-bit addresses (instead of 32-bit with IPv4)

It's awesome that you haven't had to call CIC in the entire life of your PSQL v9 database. Not unusual though. We're thrilled! That said, the real question is not "should I save money by waiting for the next version?" but "can I afford to run an unsupported database?". If the application isn't business critical - maybe. Otherwise, I'm not sure the average customer would agree with your risk/reward calculus. btw - MV90 looks like an interesting application. how long have you been running PSQL v9?

Wouldn't it be better to wait for that rather than upgrade now? I have 10 sites to upgrade and would look to cost saving at this point. I must be fortunate in that I have never had to call CIC for assitance. The software we run is MV90 from ITRON. A more cynical person might add that stopping support so close to the next version release looks like a last ditch effort to generate revenue from the current version before the next version is released. Your comments?

Like an Old Copy of Case Studio 2 is the only useful DB modelling tool for PVSW and this only goes to v9.00.

no support for VS2008.

its a great shame
